Boolean Girl is a non-profit organization hosted by Virginia Tech (also a proud partner with the Girl Scouts), and our mission is to teach kids and teens how to code, build, invent, and animate. We help narrow the gender gap in STEM fields through education and consistent, hands-on exposure to computer science and engineering during the elementary and middle school years.
They’re launching their summer program FULL STEM AHEAD PLUS, in which experienced instructors teach girls how to code. The program will take place through virtual sessions but we keep classes intentionally small to give students plenty of opportunity to interact. Also, instructors’ virtual office hours and check-ins between classes will ensure the kids’ engagement and progress throughout the program.
As educators and parents, they understand the challenges that COVID-19 presents with regards to keeping kids healthy and connected. They’re confident that FULL STEM AHEAD PLUS will add fun, challenge and variety to the summer, as kids learn a valuable new skill and meet new friends.
